The following link will take you to a blog post about Ineeka Tea’s new tea bag design: http://www.arghyle.com/2007/03/26/great-design-ineeka-tea/ While innovative in the industry, and a creative and fresh idea, this new design is a slap in the face to what many tea drinkers believe in: conservation of resources in this world. This innovative design could easily be replaced by a reusable strainer, and the tea could basically be sold loose. This tea will probably sell well because schmucks will buy it for its “cool” factor. Just an interesting tidbit of news!

This company owns their own Fair Trade/Biodynamic farms and the farms support 25,000 people who receive medical services and free/mandatory schooling for their children. Their tins are recyclable/reusable and the bags are made of a biodegradable natural fiber. The resources used for this bag are minimal when compared with the cellophane overwraps and cardboard packaging one finds with most other tea companies. This company should be applauded, not chastised.
I’m happy to hear that they support their workers and use biodegradable bags! However what does this disposable pouch do that a non-disposable steel ball steeper wouldn’t?
Very little, as long as it’s packed properly. But there’s not a lot of space in most balls. This product is intended to make drinking great tea a little easier. You don’t need to clean anything, there’s no danger of overfilling (I’ve seen my flatmates overfill their tea balls countless times, the leaves need space). And how does a company separate itself in the tea market these days? I’m not advocating the invention of a gizmo to sell a product, but there’s a lot of loose tea out there. This tea is damn good, too. The best Darjeeling I’ve had in a long time.
Interesting, I agree it does make you stand out and gets people talking. Not everything everyone says is going to be positive though. I still think a common non-disposable stainless steel tea ball is the best way to steep your loose teas!
I don’t really like that design of the tea bag either, it uses too much material that isn’t needed! I’ll stick with my regular infuser any day.
It looks like a chinese take-out box!
I love your blog, it’s so colorful! I’ll be linking to it at my blog, which you can get to by clicking on my name if you’d like to see it.

i like the way you have presented the info on your blog
It is an interesting design, but I prefer a mug infuser instead.
That is however a good way to bring in some loose leaf tea to work or a friends house instead of having to lug all your tea and teaware with you.
Better than regular tea bags for sure!

I found the quality of the tea to be rather plain, definitely not worth the price they’re asking for this.
